ZJ 93-98 Steering Box Brace

We are introducing the Jeep ZJ Steering Box Brace. Add strength, reliability, safety, and comfort to your Jeeps steering with this simple yet very functional piece of equipment. The ZJ model, Grand Cherokee factory steering system, lacks the strength to maintain safe and predictable handling and control once larger tires add more weight.
The factory steering gearbox on the driver's side unibody frame rail is only attached with three bolts that often come loose and can eventually break, leading to possible catastrophic steering failure. (Read: loss of ALL steering control)
Adding this bolt-on, easy-to-install brace reduces the stress turning larger tires creates on the steering gearbox. On BOTH sides, the brace bolts between the factory (or aftermarket) sway-bar brackets and the frame rails. A collar with two supplied bolts clamps around the lower shaft portion of the steering box and effectively eliminates the slop that generally plagues the steering in the Jeep ZJ. This reduction in slop and addition in strength will make your drive to the trail more enjoyable and safe and will help keep your steering box in its place while on the path. No modification or welding is needed to install this brace. Fits both the I6 and V8 models. It comes powder coated in textured black.

Been running this brace for 3 years. It has heald up great and fits perfectly! Would suggest upgrading to the beefier brace option that utilizes the sector shaft brace if running 35s or bigger. Without the sector shaft support the box will eventually wear faster and start to get slop and leak.
My ZJ definitely needed it. At 6" of lift, the extra support for the steering box has improved driving noticeably
Bolted right in on my 4.0L engine. Fits great and hopefully keeps my gearbox in place. Seems to drive better with it.

I had death wobble on a '93 ZJ. I replaced a majority of the steering components which stopped the shaking after hitting a bump from turning into death wobble. However, I couldn't solve that shaking. In addition, I had a couple inches of dead play in the steering wheel, it always felt like I was constantly steering, even while driving straight down the road. After installing this brace, all of those issues disappeared. No more shake, no more dead spot. The wheels turn when I turn the steering wheel, not and inch or two of play later. Echoing other reviews, it would have been nice to have a second set of hands to install, and it does ever do slightly squeeze the radiator hose where it attaches to the bottom of the radiator (I had to replace my radiator, so it is possible the replacement fitting is a little longer than stock, which is causing this). My only regret is that I had this sitting on a shelf in my garage for a year and only just found time to put it on. I wish I would have installed it immediately. Thanks for a great product.
